Crystal Chavez of Gold Coast Packing:

“I think Fresh Summit will be very different from other digital shows”

Having already attended and exhibited at two other virtual shows this year – United Fresh Live! and PMA Foodservice Delivered – Gold Coast Packing is becoming a veteran of virtual tradeshows. Crystal Chavez shares: “I think that Fresh Summit will be very different from the other two digital shows. Fresh Summit will be on a different platform and it will not be set up like a show floor with booths like United Fresh Live offered. I believe it will be more of a webpage format with unique company pages where buyers and visitors can learn more about each company, see what they have to offer and set up meetings with company representatives.”

Optimizing the AI features on the platform
Based on the information released by PMA on what to expect from this year’s Fresh Summit, there will be an AI feature built into the platform that helps optimize the experiences of both visitors and exhibitors. Chavez explains: “Because of the AI basis of the platform, the keywords and information loaded on the back end of our marketplace page will be very important.”

The AI platform will provide suggestions to the participants, such as which booths to visit and what companies to check out. “This will be based on what similar products and pages they have clicked on. So, the amount of traffic and visits to our page will depend on the information we provide. This will mean we have to look at the setup a bit differently than booth placement, product samples, and booth staffing like we do at an in-person show,” says Chavez.

2-lb retail items to be introduced
This year, Gold Coast Packing is introducing its newest 2-lb retail items at Fresh Summit. Chavez explains: “We have just released two new retail items in a 2-lb format: Broccoli Slaw and a Garden Blend, which is a blend of broccoli & cauliflower florets and baby carrots. These are a larger pack size than what is usually sold at the retail level, but they are the perfect family pack size of fresh cut vegetables. Since Covid-19, we have been seeing more people cooking at home and shortening their shopping trips. These 2lb. bags offer the convenience of healthy home cooking with a longer shelf life so consumers can limit their trips out to the grocery store.”

Gold Coast Packing is looking forward to getting some feedback on their newest items at the show this year. “Feedback helps us to continue to develop items that are in demand for retail and foodservice,” Chavez shares. “We also like to see what is trending and of course listen in on the great sessions that PMA always puts together for attendees. I hope that PMA sections its exhibitors like it does at in person shows, separating produce, floral, technology and solutions, making it easier for buyers to find exactly who and what they are looking for, and of course we are looking forward to connecting with new customers, current customers, and industry friends,” she concludes.
