Holland Farming BV is a Dutch distributor of agricultural and horticultural inputs. The company has its headquarters in the Netherlands, and a regional office in Boekarest, Romania with an advanced laboratory for analysis of soil and fertilizers. Next to that they have their own bell pepper greenhouse, also in Romania.
The greenhouse
Georgiana Stanciu is the manager of the greenhouse in Stoenesti, and tells about the cultivation and about Holland Farming. “We are the only ones in Romania that are growing bell pepper in a hydroponic system.”
The crop area of the greenhouse is 7,000 square meters, of a total of 8,000. The other 1,000 m2 is for offices, an irrigation room and the boiler room. At first, the greenhouse was for trialing new crop protection products, fertilizers or seeds. That has now changed, it’s main purpose is now the production of peppers.
New Holland Farming products are tested in Stoenesti, to gather more information for other growers. “We test seeds, for instance, to see ‘the behaviour’ of some varieties under Romanian climate conditions. Next to that, we test bio products to see their compatibility with the biological control. We wouldn’t want to kill the good insects.”
Cropmax
Cropmax is a Holland Farming biostimulant that can be used in all kinds of crops, from vegetable to ornamental. It helps crops deal with stress, for instance when it’s very hot outside. In warm periods, it’s hard to take up enough calcium.
“With the help of this product the root system improves, which helps make it a strong, healthy crop that can take up more nutrients.” It can also be used in combination with plant protection products, which increases their efficiency and accelerates the plants’ metabolism, making the protection product work faster.
