Russia: Lipetsk region harvested 35% vegetables more than last year

As of the first part of August four greenhouse complexes, located in Dankovsky, Eletsky, Khlevensky and Usmansky districts (Lipetsk, Russia) have collected 87 thousand tons of greenhouse vegetables. This is 35% higher than the data of 2019, when during the same period of that year 64 thousand tons were collected.

Among the crops there are 50.6 thousand tons of cucumbers, 36.1 tons of tomatoes and 300 tons of eggplants.

Since 2014, greenhouse vegetable growing has been one the main priorities in the development of the agricultural complex of the Lipetsk region. State support, provided by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation in combination with local measures of support, have allowed investors to increase the acreage of contemporary greenhouses of the fourth and fifth generation by 20 times (from 11.2 ha to 225 ha). The gross crop collection has increased 19 times (from 5.8 thousand tons in 2013 to 109.7 tons in 2019).

The Lipetsk region has been the leader of the Russian Federation in greenhouse vegetable production several times now.

“A cluster of greenhouse vegetable producers has shaped in the region, consisting of a greenhouse construction factory, the greenhouses themselves and the distribution center”, shared the Head of the Department for Agriculture, Mr. Oleg Dolgih. “In the coming years we are planning to construct another 70 ha of greenhouses and reach a production volume of 220 thousand tons.”
