Growers pleased with new rootstock Securforce F1

The development of new horticultural rootstocks has always been one of the main research assets of the Italian breeding company Fenix. With a focus on the Mediterranean area, they research resistances and test the relationship between the rootstock and the cultivar. Their new tomato rootstock Securforce F1 is praised by growers since it helps them with a more stable production throughout the winter season and makes their cultivation easier.

Miele – Quality and productive continuity of miniplum tomato Miele F1 are pledged by the graft on Securforce F1.

Thanks to many years of research, Fenix now has a complete range of rootstocks for the professional growers of tomato, eggplant, watermelon, melon and cucumber. The technical team of Fenix helps growers choose the best combination for specific cultivation circumstances, something they've learned from their experience and research as well. To help growers further, they will disclose a lot of information regarding grafting soon on their website vegetablegrafting.eu, that is already available in Italian and will soon be translated to English.

For the tomato market a new rootstock gets remarkably good responses since many growers notice the positive performance. "This includes the resistances, the productivity and the sustainability also during a long cycle cultivation", the team with Fenix says. The name of this rootstock reflects these capabilities: Securforce F1.

Resistances
"Securforce F1 – is one of the hybrids with the highest number of resistances present on the market", the team shows. "This includes the third race of Fusarium oxysporum (F3), corky root and bacterial wilt to mention some of them."

Securforce is characterized by middle vigour and it pledges the keeping of typical shape and organoleptic features (shape, color and typical taste) of the fruits. It is naturally on roots that this hybrid presents its strength.

"Securforce distinguishes itself in its capillary capabilities, distributing  its root mass homogeneously in the soil. Moreover, Securforce is different from the other rootstocks present nowadays for its simplicity  of cultivation management because it gives a very balanced vegetative and reproductive development to grafted varieties", the team continues. "It makes the nutritional management easier, especially during the winter period. Normally this time is more complicated since often the water needs do not match the optimum nutrition that is required for the growth, maturation and quality of the fruits."

Vigorous plants
They explain how many growers notice that Securforce has a vigour throughout the season and matures late, so the benefits become more clear during the season.

The Securforce rootstock is particularly suggested for little and middle size tomatoes, green, ribbed, cluster and ox heart, since Securforce F1 it helps maintaining the typical shape of the fruits as well as, when wanted, the green shoulder and the taste. "We hear this feedback from growers in many regions, especially from the growers with the ox heart tomatoes. They say that Securforce is able to regulate production at different stages giving the plant the possibility to express a better more stable productivity over time."
