Malaysia: 8,257 ha of land is suitable for agriculture

According to Assistant Minister for Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, a total of 8,257 hectares (ha) of land in the Katibas constituency is suitable for agriculture activities.

In replying to a supplementary question from Datuk Ambrose Blikau Enturan (GPS-Katibas) in the State Legislative Assembly sitting today, Dr Abdul Rahman said the suitable land could utilised for the plantations of durian especially Musang King, pineapple, banana and jack fruit besides ‘dabai’ (black olive).

Earlier, the assistant minister informed the august House that the Nanga Engkuah Agricultural Station “is now operational and is headed by an assistant agriculture officer”.

“The key components in the programme that are available at the agricultural station include farm input, hill paddy assistance, individual rubber planting scheme and livestock development scheme,” he said.

To encourage the youths to participate in the agricultural sector, Dr Abdul Rahman said the Sarawak government is promoting modern farming such as using derivation and hydroponic systems equipped with the Internet of Things (Not).
