Excitement builds as UC Davis strawberry trials planted in EU

Excitement was created in May after selected nurseries and growers were invited to California on a visit organised by Global Plant Genetics to see the new selections of strawberries for the first time.

Trials of the short day and day neutral strawberry selections are now being established throughout Europe and “we are looking forward to seeing the results during the winter and throughout the spring”, commented Rupert Hargreaves.

With improved yields, fruit quality/flavour and disease resistance already demonstrated in the Californian trials, we are excited to demonstrate these traits in Europe. The growers, marketing companies and end consumers are looking for an all-round better offer and it is widely anticipated these new selections will deliver for their needs.
