Vegetable cultivation test station, Sint-Katelijne-Waver

First lettuce plants into new research greenhouse

After months of hard work, the moment for the researchers at the vegetable cultivation test station at Sint-Katelijne-Waver had finally arrived. The first lettuce plants entered the greenhouse and were placed on the propagation tables.

The launch of the expansion works took place in May, with Minister Koen Van Den Heuvel solemnly opening the works by carrying out a symbolic well bore. These drillings were continued and soon formed the basis for the foundation of the new greenhouse. After the curing of this support structure, it was possible to start placing the first columns.

The greenhouse soon began to take shape in which, among other things, the glass, the roof and the facade were fitted with the needed glass, pipes were laid, heating pipes were mounted and welded, new power supply units and electrical systems were installed.
