New organic snacking tomato line to be launched at PMA

Wholesum, Fair Trade certified growers and shippers of organic produce, have announced the launch of their snacking tomato lineup that comes in top seal packaging. They will feature the line at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit in October in Anaheim, CA.

“At Wholesum, we have always emphasized flavor in our products, but this line is beyond compare,” says Ricardo Crisantes, CCO of Wholesum. “Our customers have loved our snacking tomato varieties, so we thought why not bring them together as a flavor-centric collection? We truly believe that these are some of the best tasting snacking tomatoes on market, and we’re very excited to showcase them at PMA.”

The collection features Wholesum’s organic snacking tomatoes. The line includes:

  • Poppies – Cherry tomatoes on the vine
  • Kaleidos – Snacking tomatoes that come in different colors including yellow, orange, red and brown.
  • Darlings – Deep-red grape tomatoes, with brix levels above 7.5
  • Brites – Cherry tomatoes on the vine with two different colored strands of cherry tomatoes, a red and a yellow or orange option

Wholesum says the idea behind this new lineup is to "bring excitement back to tomatoes". Another feature of the packaging is that it is 100 percent recyclable. The container is made with 100 percent PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and the film with PET/EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate).

“We don’t need to sacrifice flavor and fun to be more environmentally friendly,” says Crisantes. “We will continue to explore options that are better for the environment in more of our product lines while delivering to our customers’ needs.”
