Vietnam with a population of nearly 97 million people and an average GDP growth of 7.5% per year is the fastest growing economy in the ASEAN region (Association of Southeast Asian Nations). Horticulture and Floriculture are one of the most promising sectors of the Vietnamese economy and will remain a very high potential market in the years to come as the horticulture and floriculture sector is expected to develop into a mature and technical industry.
And the international interest was clearly visible at Hortex 2019. The second edition of this exhibition, that was held last March in Ho Chi Minh City, hosted nearly 200 exhibitors from 28 countries worldwide and welcomed 6,495 trade visitors from Vietnam and 31 other countries.
One of the participants was Gakon Horticultural Projects. After successful first time participation at HortEx Vietnam 2019, they confirm a follow-up participation at HortEx Vietnam 2020.
Mr. Olaf Mos, Sales Director at Gakon, states: “Vietnam, with its ambition to become the vegetable growing heart of Southeast Asia, is a relatively new market for Gakon but it is already clear that the country offers great potential.”

The country‘s exports of fruits & vegetables have enjoyed strong growth in the past years, with an average rate of 26.5 per cent a year; from $439 million in 2009 to almost $4 billion in 2018. Furthermore, Vietnam has the potential to become one of the world’s largest flower exporters according to experts.
The sector is expected to show further growth due to strong exports and an increasing domestic demand. Free Trade Agreements between Vietnam and partners, both within and outside the region, give an additional boost to the sector.
A great example of this is the recently signed Free Trade Agreement between the European Union (EU) and Vietnam which is the most ambitious free trade deal ever concluded with a developing country, as described by the EU.
