Inveseed, a research and development company of the Intersemillas group, has found a solution to tackle viruses and/or bacteria in seeds.
"We have developed a novel and effective disinfection method against viruses and/or bacteria. It is backed by over three years of research and development in the field of seed disinfection," says Pablo Pérez, researcher in Inveseed and Plant Breeder of Intersemillas.
"Over the past year, the disinfection service has been carried out by different companies in the sector as a test. Today we are finally convinced of the success of our method," says the expert.
The presence of viruses or bacteria, no matter how small, prevents seeds from being sold or exported. Inveseed's method is a solution for the marketing of highly valuable seeds which never reach the market for these reasons.
However, Pablo Pérez says that no viruses or bacteria will be detected after disinfection with Real Time RT-PCR. "Inveseed's disinfection method is a very effective solution. The different experiences by different seed companies show this, and that is why we want to showcase it to the world."
