The University of Giessen, department of plant breeding, has brought BLV on board to equip its research greenhouse with an LED system. BLV supplies its new LED toplighting luminaires with specific spectra, matching the requirements of the research project.
“At the University of Giessen, we are investigating the water uptake and nutrient utilisation of various rapeseed and wheat genotypes under field and greenhouse conditions. For our investigations it is important that the results from the greenhouse are comparable to the situation in the field”, explains Dr. Andreas Stahl, research project leader. “The BLV LED lights help us to control the growth of greenhouse crops in such a way that it corresponds to the field conditions. The controlled conditions in the greenhouse allow us to gain insights into water use efficiency and nutrient uptake that cannot be generated under field conditions."
In 2018 BLV extended its portfolio of HPS systems by introducing a comprehensive product line of LED solutions, covering top- and interlighting as well as multilayer solutions.
The toplighting luminaires used in the Giessen research project are part of a product series that offers ten different spectra, which are optimised to meet the needs of different plants such as vegetables, fruits or flowers. The portfolio offers solutions for all phases of growth, from germination to production.
