Ready-made salad failed the tests

Six out of ten ready-to-eat salads in the supermarket have been contaminated by yeast and mold fungus, according to consumer protection surveys by the Upper Austrian Labor Chamber. Four out of ten packs tested were deemed no longer edible.

Ten pre-cut and packaged salads of Upper Austrian shops were tested. In the microbiological, sensory and chemical-physical examination, although no Salmonella or Listeria was found, mold and yeast fungi were. In very sensitive people these can lead to gastrointestinal complaints.
