“Developing new grow bags for the ever increasing blueberry market”

US based FibreDust LLC has announced the expansion of operations to include a warehouse and office in Cd Guzman Mexico. New operations commenced in 2018 with the goal of not only showcasing the True Blue blueberry grow bag, but to serve as R&D for development of new growing bags for the ever increasing blueberry and soft fruit market.

Opportunity
With a close eye on the market, FibreDust president Sam Ahilan saw an opportunity. “I have always wanted to grow blueberries, and now with our new blueberry bag we can bring coir to the market quickly! The advantages of coir are well documented, and the blueberry plant takes to coir well and flourishes. We are so excited about how well the plants do with coir and the yield we get”, he stated from the Guzman operation.

The blueberry market is a growing market. “The growers are looking for a better alternative than soil that increases their yield and maximizes growing space”, Sam explains. FibreDust has already supplied over 100 containers to the Mexican market and is expanding to other markets. In the blueberry market, the True Blue blueberry growbag is at the heart of this expansion.

The True Blue blueberry growbag has been developed with the help of major growers in many markets. “The proprietary mix is formulated for maximum yield. This is the mix that works best for the plants and ultimately the growers’ partners”, Sam continues. “It allows a grower to plant more per hectare: Typically you can plant 6,500 per hectare in soil, while in the True Blue grow bag this can be increased by about 40%."

The blueberry plant requires not only water retention but also benefits from aeration. “When planted in soil, or a peat moss mix, proper aeration is difficult to achieve.  A Soil-Peat moss mix over time becomes very humid; often the plants suffer from root rot. With proper aeration, this is avoided, resulting in a healthier root system.”
