New Zealand: Peter Holwerda celebrates 30 years for Faber/Apex Greenhouses

"Essentially we are still building greenhouse businesses like we were thirty years ago"

Last week in New Zealand at Apex Greenhouses Head Office in Waiuku, South Auckland, a small celebration was held for Peter Holwerda to celebrate 30 years working for Faber Glasshouses/Apex Greenhouses.

Current director of Apex Greenhouses Folco Faber says the following “Peter started working together with my father in the early stages of the business at Faber Glasshouses. According to my father, Peter came to work for him to help out with the manufacturing side of the business but ended up taking to the business with both hands. Peter worked with our first ever computer to transfer the quoting system from a paper based to a computer based system and from there took on the role of sales manager and then on to general manager.”

With the formation of Apex Greenhouses, James Harris took over the role of General Manager in NZ to allow Peter to spend more time focussing on customers and less energy on the day to day running of the company

Peter has had some extremely difficult personal issues to endure, including eleven months away from work dealing with his own ill health, just a few years after the sad passing of his wife in 2007.

"Considering all life has given him he has always been extremely professional and committed to his work and customers. Although he is not a grower he has been an integral cog in the growing wheel. He is held in high regard amongst all the greenhouse growers he has helped over the past three decades", the team shares.

There is no thought of retirement and no desire to work for any other company, “It’s been a crazy ride, even when its quiet its busy but essentially we are still building greenhouse businesses like we were thirty years ago”.  Long may it continue.
