Robotic harvesting is not sci-fi anymore

The development of robotic innovations becomes more achievable day by day. For instance, using a robot to harvest strawberry is not sci-fi anymore, and the results are extremely good. We had already discussed this two years ago when we showed a video illustrating the remarkable harvesting precision. Now, the new video below shows the high-level of automation achieved.

The robot does not touch the fruits. Thanks to its cameras, it can tell the ripe strawberries from the unripe. The robotic arm delicately picks up the fruits and directly puts them into the box.

The harvesting can be carried out both in soilless implants and in open fields – traditional farming. The manufacturer company is Spanish and has based its system on infra-red sensors in order for the AI to distinguish the three-dimensionality and to harvest – through 24 robotic arms – every strawberry individually without harming the others.
