16% of Russian tomatoes picked in Stavropol region

Stavropol growers have picked 16% of the overall tomato crops in the Russian Federation, reported the press service of the ministry of agriculture.

“Stavropol is a leading region in the Russian Federation in tomato greenhouse production; over 16% of the tomatoes produced in the whole country come from this region”, reads the report.

The ministry representative has clearly stated that the tomato is a main greenhouse vegetable of the region. Its share in overall regional produce comprises 74%, 26% are left for cucumbers and lettuce.

“Up to the current date the greenhouses of the region have produced 73.5 thousand tons of vegetables, 52.9 thousand tons of tomatoes, 20.3 thousand tons of cucumber and 0.3 thousand tons of lettuces”, specified the press service.

“The residents of the region are currently fully provided with the locally produced vegetables (26 kilos per person or 220% of the medical norm of vegetable consumption per person). The export of vegetable produce grown in the region is carried out to the central part of Russia”, noted the deputy head of the regional ministry of agriculture, Mr. Andrey Oleynikov.
