In April 2017, Schenkeveld began constructing a new location: Schenkeveld Schiphol. Schenkeveld and their supplier Codema have been working closely together for decades. Codema has already created the water technology of new Schenkeveld construction projects twice, once in Den Hoorn and once in Schipluiden.

Disinfection
"Water is the basis of our cultivation, so every drop of water is disinfected," says Cultivation Manager Arthur van der Meijs. "All water streams are sanitized and processed through one device. The OptiClear Diamond of Water iQ disinfects rainwater, pool water, condense and waste water with a capacity of 100 cbm/hour. Wastewater is processed with a capacity of 40 cbm/hr. "Our water supply is based on a weekly substrate and toxicity analysis, as well as a two-week sewage and plant sap analysis. Codema has developed these water installations especially for us. An automatic flushing system has been installed to thoroughly rinse all the pipes. By daily flushing of the main line, the distribution line and all the dripping hoses, we start every day with fresh water for all plants. Not a drop of water is wasted."

First-class tomatoes
"At Schenkeveld, we have set ourselves high goals," says Arthur van der Meijs. "With more light we can achieve an earlier crop rotation and this gives us the opportunity to produce top-quality tomatoes year-round. We do not necessarily want to be the largest tomato grower, but we do want to be the best."
