On March 22, 2018, De Ruiter opened its brand new, state-of-the-art demo glasshouse, the De Ruiter Experience Center. De Ruiter then set the goal to receive 1,000 visitors per year. Six months after opening, De Ruiter has welcomed its 2018th professional from the vegetable industry to the facilities in Bleiswijk (The Netherlands).
John van der Knaap, Manager De Ruiter Experience Center
The interest from growers, plant breeders, crop advisors, trade partners, university lecturers and students to visit the center is overwhelming, according to the company. De Ruiter has welcomed visitors from 25 different countries.
Market, Garden, and Experience
The De Ruiter Experience Center is a multi-purpose facility. It consists of two De Ruiter Gardens, where more than 300 tomato varieties are cultivated in both conventional and lit crops. Guests can also visit the De Ruiter Market, where varieties of tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers are displayed, demonstrating shelf life and enabling comparison to be made between varieties. The Experience Hall provides visitors with the chance to learn about De Ruiter’s history and production techniques. The center also boasts a range of meeting rooms, varying in size, suitable for hosting workshops, meetings and discussions.
