Dutch growers still outstanding in their field

The Netherlands agricultural statistics office has produced a chart showing greenhouse vegetable production yields from 1950 to 2015. The results show the dramatic increase in yields (kg/ha) over the years, in response to technological advances in the industry. The Dutch greenhouse cucumber yields are especially impressive, both by increases over time, as well as compared to the UK and Canada.

A data review was conducted to compare these Dutch yields to other major countries. As it turns out, the Netherlands was one of only a very few countries found that has published this yield data earlier than the year 2000. Available data for the United Kingdom, Canada and the U.S.A. for the later years are presented here as a comparison to the Dutch data. The data for the U.S.A. and Canada are limited for yields, as these reported statistics are usually only for area and sales/area, not crop yield.
