March 2016: Priva's deleafing robot and funding for Ontario growers

In this overview we are looking back at the first two weeks of March 2016. This was the month that Priva unveiled their deleafing robot. The introduction of this new robot was the result of 15 years research and development by Priva and collaborating greenhouse growers.

Also in March 2016; Ontario growers received funding to increase their US sales. The Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers (OGVG) announced funding from Growing Forward 2 (GF2) for up to $172,000 over the next two years to implement a Retail Educational Merchandising Program for the U.S. market. All of this to educate U.S. retailers on best merchandising practices, develop and strengthen supply chain relationships, and ultimately increase Ontario greenhouse vegetable sales in the U.S. marketplace.

And on the Island of Hainan in China, the construction of a 7-hectare high tech Venlo greenhouse was nearing its completion. The year-round tomato greenhouse operation, complete with packing hall and processing hall, can be seen as one of the largest and most modern commercial glass vegetable greenhouse projects in this Chinese region to date.
