CAN (AB): Getting into Retail workshop

Getting into Retail is a one-day workshop designed for those who are interested in transitioning into retail sales beyond the traditional farm direct market channels.

“This workshop allows participants to discover the scope of the retail market, market drivers and the pros and cons of accessing this market opportunity,” says Delores Serafin, Alberta Agriculture and Forestry. “You’ll learn everything you’ll need to know before you start selling retail such as packaging, labels, regulations and safe food handling practices. And, we’ll explore strategies to identify your target market, reach customers and ensure your business is ready to expand.”

Other topics include:
  • if your business is ready for retail sales
  • how to make connections with retailers and brokers
  • how to present your products to buyers
  • how to get your product to the retailer
  • how to get into and stay in the retail game
  • how to make sure your product will stand out for retail customers
“As well, two producers from the horticulture and prepared food industries will share their retail channel insight in a fireside chat style conversation,” says Serafin.

Getting into Retail takes place Thursday, December 8, 2016, at the Lacombe Provincial Building, and runs from 8:45 a.m. until 4 p.m. Cost is $25 (includes GST) and includes lunch and refreshments. To register, call 1-800-387-6030 by December 1.
