NL: Nominations for Horticultural Entrepreneur's Prize 2017 announced

On Friday, 28 October 2016, Nico Koomen, CEO of Stichting Tuinbouw Ondernemersprijs [Horticultural Entrepreneur's Prize Foundation], visited the three nominated candidates for the Horticultural Entrepreneur's Prize 2017 to congratulate them.

Bunnik Plants delighted with the nomination

On 11 January 2017 the winner will be announced at the award ceremony in the Keukenhof in Lisse. Royal FloraHolland is a partner of the Horticultural Entrepreneur's Prize and proposes two companies each year. From a list of excellent candidates, the jury nominated the following companies:

Bunnik Plants, Bleiswijk
This innovative pot plant company produces green plants sustainably grown on 25 hectares. Bunnik Plants has established a great reputation with its different production lines and their added value. The internationally oriented family company always looks for the most sustainable solutions for its operational management and is involved in many projects as a partner or initiator. Bunnik Plants was proposed by Royal FloraHolland.

Green Specialties Holland, Lierop
Adrie and Hennie van den Einden built up Green Specialties Holland from a traditional vegetable farm into one of the most prominent suppliers of high-quality leafy crops. The company's activities cover all links in the chain to ensure the quality of the products. The company innovates and is strongly market-oriented, so it does not always take the easiest path. Green Specialties Holland was proposed by Ron Mulders.

Jac. Uittenbogaard & Zonen (JUB Holland), Noordwijkerhout
This company in the bulb sector is one of the few that controls all aspects of the flower bulb business:
  • Breeding
  • Cultivating
  • Forcing
  • Marketing of flower bulbs to the retail, landscape and forcing sectors
JUB Holland emphasises sustainable business and is closely involved in numerous initiatives in the field of sustainability of the flower bulb cultivation industry.

Jury's selection
The finalists have in common that they have a strong and innovative strategy to respond to the rapidly changing society in which sustainability and the economy go well together. There is a continuous flow of innovations, and collaboration is sought with partners to improve not only themselves as entrepreneurs but also the sector as a whole.
