Crimea: High demand drives up cucumber prices

In the last week of October, cucumber prices experienced a sharp increase in Crimea, which is being contributed to a surge in demand for the vegetable.

According to Fruit-Inform, current prices of cucumbers vary between RUB 70-100.лп (USD 1.20-1.70/kg), depending on variety and quality. For comparison, prices were 42% lower in the first half of the week.

Sellers connect such a situation with feverish demand for cucumbers in the Crimean market against a background of limited supply. Russian farms’ shipments have been gradually decreasing, while local farms’ outputs are still rather low. Many Crimean greenhouse centers also decided not to grow cucumbers this year due to an increase in production costs and lack of resources.

It should also be noted that current prices of cucumbers in Crimea are already 10% higher year-on-year.
