Ukrainian fresh produce price index down 10.7%

From September 3rd to 6th, the Ukrainian fresh produce price index decreased by 10.7%, after relative stability the week before. Tomatoes contributed the largest decrease to the price index, as they became 42.9% less expensive week-on-week, reports Fruit-Inform.

Prices of all fresh produce categories went down last week. In addition to tomatoes, carrot prices fell sharply. Growers made attempts to sell middle-season varieties before the start of the harvesting campaign of the late ones and were ready to reduce their prices under conditions of moderate demand. 

Onion prices continued to go down. In addition, potato prices fell for the first time in a long time. As a result, the price index of traditional vegetables went down by 9.2% week-on-week.

The fresh fruit market was characterized by lower prices of melons and watermelons, which became 18.2% less expensive. Grape prices also fell by 11.1%. As a result, the fresh fruit price index went down by 3.4%.
