Ten months after its creation, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (Magrama) has officially recognised Hortiespaña as a new Spanish interprofessional organization for the fruit and vegetable sector.
In a provision published in the Official Gazette (BOE) on 23 August, 2016, it is informed of the decision of the Ministry, which thus formally authorises the Spanish Interprofessional Organisation of Fruits and Vegetables (Hortiespaña), consisting of eight associations and over 700 companies.
The horticultural products under the umbrella of the new association are tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, courgettes, aubergines, green beans, melons and watermelons produced in greenhouses.
The official recognition of this entity as interprofessional was also supported by the General Council of Interprofessional Agrofood Organizations, which issued a favourable report in this regard in late June.
However, the union of fruit and vegetable exporters FEPEX and the agricultural organization Asaja have rejected the constitution of this new interprofessional organization, considering that it only has the support of the promoting entities, which are based in Andalusia.
The BOE specifies that appeals against the decision can be issued within one month to the Ministry or within two months to the National Court.
