Tunesia: Desert Joy is the first Fairtrade tomato grower in the world

Dutch supermarkets COOP and Hoogvliet are introducing Fairtrade certified vine cherry tomatoes and candy tomatoes this week. These tomatoes are produced by the company Desert Joy in sunny Tunisia. An overflow of natural light, excellent weather conditions and short logistic routes make Tunisia the ideal place to produce top quality tomatoes outside of the Dutch season.

Desert Joy does this with respect for people and the environment and are therefore the first Fairtrade certified tomato grower in the world. `You can taste their passion in tomatoes full of flavour: deliciously sweet vine cherry tomatoes and juicy candy tomatoes, perfectly ripened under the Tunisian sun' .

Desert Joy was founded in 2013 as an off season production site of AgroCare, one of the largest greenhouse growers in The Netherlands.
