Takii, based in Kyoto, Japan, is a breeder, producer and marketer of vegetable and flower seeds, which are sold to seed dealers and growers around the world. American Takii uses ABS Seed for its operations since 2005. In addition to Kyoto and Salinas, Takii has operations in South America and in Europe. Its seeds support both vegetable and flower production worldwide. Takii seeds are sold to wholesale brokers or dealers who then sell to growers.
American Takii recently expanded their office and production warehouse facilities at the Salinas Headquarters for North America. This expansion coincided with the parent company's 180th anniversary. Steve Wiley, General Manager and Chief Operations Officer for American Takii, says the new production facility at 301 Natividad Road in Salinas prevents double handling of the product and dramatically reduces shipping costs.
In the new production facility American Takii makes use of the ABS mobile. This is a handheld solution. Using the handheld solution makes operations quicker and easier. No more data entry in desktops is needed in the warehouse. All data entry in the warehouse is now done using the handheld solutions, with ABS software, which is connected to the ABS program. "Real-time overviews of inventory and shipping now become really real-time."
For Takii also the procedures in production and inventory have changed now the new production facility is ready. "Much of our seed is grown in Chile, Central America and the U.S.," Wiley said. "It used to be shipped to Japan for processing and then shipped back to us for distribution. Now, the raw seed is shipped to Salinas where it is cleaned, sorted, packaged and distributed to farms across the United States and other parts of the Americas, lessening a significant carbon footprint."
Integration in Takii will go on in the near future. IT solutions, amongst others ABS, will be integrated to provide the right information to the right people in Takii.
