EU: Growers not able to comply with fire-retardant screen regulations
In Holland, growers are forced to replace all their screens with fire-retardant materials before January 1, 2017. But this seems to be not financially viable for many parties. To help the growers, alternatives are being sought by insurers and parties.
The outcome is that for new build greenhouse and replacement of screens, fire-retardant fabrics must be installed. Growers that have flammable screens installed will need to conduct extensive checks and audits in order to keep their fire insurance after January 2017:
Companies with combustible screen cloth need to have their electrical installation inspected, including the main switchboard (NEN 3140) and have defects repaired.
Companies with combustible screen cloth and assimilation lighting need to have the electrical installation, lighting installation, transformers and the main switchboard inspected. Defects must be repaired immediately.
