Netherlands: Koppert retains its position in the Hillenraad 100

For the third year in a row, Koppert Biological Systems has been ranked the third best company in this sector. Director, Paul Koppert, sees this as an acknowledgement for the importance of cultivation sustainability and innovation. ‘We want to give growers as much peace of mind as possible.’

Koppert Biological Systems has been a market leader in biological crop control and natural pollination for many years. In the last couple of years it has expanded its field of work considerably. Ensuring that cultivation systems are more sustainable is Koppert’s mission and this is reflected in its slogan: ‘Partners with Nature’, which was introduced at the end of last year. Koppert now also offers products that support the plant’s root system such a biostimulants, natural products that promote the quality, yield and resistance of crops that could reduce the use of artificial fertilizers and chemical pesticides.

There are also innovations and developments in new markets such as soft fruit and outdoor vegetables. Another example of this diversification, both in terms of cultivation and geographical markets, is the recent introduction of the product, Panoramix. This natural dressing protects seeds and gives the young seedlings of field corps such as wheat, maize and soya beans an extra boost. This leads to greater production.

Strong growth
Koppert has grown strongly in the last decade, strengthening its market position by establishing a number of subsidiaries and joint ventures. The organization now has a staff of 1200, with subsidiaries in 25 countries and is actively present in more than 100 countries. Koppert is recognized as an international R&D and knowledge centre for sustainable cultivation. Director Henri Oosthoek: ‘The customer remains our focus. More than 300 advisors worldwide are continually analyzing the growers’ needs and these are translated into R&D projects.’

Worldwide relevance
Paul Koppert: ‘We have managed to hold on to our high position in the ranking of 100 prominent companies that include Enza Zaden in first position and Nature’s Pride as second. All these companies represent the Dutch high-tech greenhouse sector which has worldwide relevance. Our prominent position is an honour, but also encourages us to strive for an even higher ranking. How? By giving our customers peace of mind wherever possible. All around the world!’
