Permit received in June, planted in October:

Austrian grower builds 8 hectares in record time

The 7.8 hectare large greenhouse of ‘Red Tomatoes’, is the latest project of grower Christian Zeiler, in the Austrian Margarethen am Moos. An extraordinary job, taking into account the fact that the building permit was only granted in early June this year. The first plants were in the greenhouse late October.

"You know that you are taking on an enormous risk when you decide to build at such a late stage," says grower Christian Zeiler. "But also that there will be squabbles and the awareness of all the things which had the potential to go wrong, but everything went well and was fixed in time."

It is a unique greenhouse project for this region in which use has been made of residual heat, supplemental lighting and a dehumidification system, which will recover the used energy.

Thanks to the well-organised schedule of Looije Agro Technics and the enormous commitment and involvement of suppliers and installers, the new construction was able to be realised in record time.

From mid-December, the tomatoes from ‘Red Tomatoes’ will be ready to be presented on the shelves of Austria's grocery stores.
