Netherlands: Four excellent entrepreneurs stand to win the Horticultural Entrepreneurs’ Award 2016

The finalists for the Tuinbouw Ondernemersprijs 2016 have been announced. On Friday 23 October, Chair of the Board Nico Koomen made a surprise visit to the four nominated candidates who stand to win the prestigious entrepreneurs’ award, which, on 6 January, will be presented for the 30th time.

What the finalists have in common is that they are using a strong and updated strategy to respond to the rapidly changing society in which sustainability and economics go hand in hand. There is a constant flow of innovations in these companies and collaboration is being sought with partners to improve not just as an entrepreneur, but as a sector. The nominated candidates develop and share knowledge.

The jury has nominated the following companies from an excellent list of candidates for the Tuinbouw Ondernemersprijs 2016:

Boomkwekerij Ebben, Cuijk
With a global crop of 450,000 trees per year, Boomkwekerij Ebben is one of the leading companies in its sector. This family business is extremely market-oriented. The very innovative projects that Boomkwekerij Ebben develops with landscape architects are sustainable and unique in nature.

Eosta/Nature & More, Waddinxveen
This distributor of fresh organic fruit and vegetables, specialising in overseas fruit and Dutch greenhouse vegetables, believes that ecology and economics may go hand in hand. The company has developed internationally as one of the leading importers and exporters in this segment and ensures a constant flow of innovative products.

Royal Brinkman, ’s-Gravenzande
Royal Brinkman has been a supplier, advisor and installer for the professional horticultural industry since 1885. Whereas many suppliers found themselves in a difficult position over the past few years, Royal Brinkman was able to determine its own international track to take.

Ter Laak Orchids, Wateringen
Innovative family business Ter Laak Orchids is characterised by its result-oriented approach and typically Dutch trade mentality. On a site of 125,000 m2, high-quality Phalaenopsis are grown using the latest technologies.

30th award ceremony on 6 January
The jury is yet to reach a verdict; a second round of judging is now underway. The winner will be announced on 6 January 2016 in Keukenhof during the celebratory 30th edition of the award ceremony.

The Tuinbouw Ondernemersprijs is supported by partners: the Dutch Produce Association, FloraHolland, Flynth, Koninklijke BDU Uitgevers, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Rabobank and HPP Exhibitions.
