US (GA): Bejo Seeds to showcase 'Tasti-Trio' At PMA Fresh Summit

At the 2015 PMA Fresh Summit and Convention in Atlanta, Bejo Seeds, Inc. will be serving up three of their hottest produce items with Celebrity Chef Mareya, The Fit Foodie, at booth # 1727.

The “tasti-trio” includes Bejo Seeds, Inc. proprietary jumbo Kohlrabi, award-winning Tasti-Lee Tomatoes, and Sweetheart Lettage.

Tasti-Lee Tomatoes:
Grown nationally by leaders in the farming community, Tasti-Lee® tomatoes come in both Organic and Conventional. These tasti tomatoes were created as a premium, vine-ripened tomato. Tasti-Lee® Tomatoes are never artificially ripened or gassed with ethylene for color. Tasti-Lee Tomatoes® have the highest levels of lycopene in any tomato variety in the United States. These GMO-free and sun-ripened tomatoes naturally have 50% more lycopene than traditional tomatoes! Tasti-Lee® tomatoes proudly carry the Heart-Check Mark food certification from the American Heart Association that helps people identify foods in stores that meet the nutritional standards of the American Heart Association to promote heart-healthy eating habits.

Sweetheart Lettage:
SweetHeart Lettage is a pointed-head cabbage grown from the Caraflex seed, a high-quality vegetable variety produced by Bejo, and is picked young when its leaves are tender, sweet and mild. It has the perfect combination of the crispiness and refreshing qualities of lettuce with delicious taste and excellent nutrition of cabbage. Not only does Sweetheart Lettage taste great, it packs a punch in the health department! It has 9 times more Vitamin C, and 21% more Calcium than Romaine lettuce. Plus, it’s an Excellent Source of Vitamin K, and a Good Source of Folate and Dietary Fiber.* (*USDA Content Value Comparison).

Kohlrabi:
When freshly picked, Kohlrabi’s appearance is often compared to resemble an alien spaceship. However, it’s not until after Farm Stand Fresh Foods washes, slices, and packages their delicious Kohlrabi; the nutritional goodness can be readily enjoyed raw or cooked in a stir fry, soup, stew or even a fritter. Kohlrabi is a member of the cabbage family, and as such, comes with this family's signature sweet-but-peppery flavor profile. Kohlrabi is notably rich in vitamins and dietary fiber; and it has only 27 calories per 100 g, a negligible amount of fat, and zero cholesterol. Fresh kohlrabi stem is rich source of vitamin-C and also contains good amounts of many B-complex groups of vitamins such as niacin, vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine), thiamin and pantothenic acid.

Kohlrabi Making Culinary Trends:
Recently named by Epicurious Magazine as “the vegetable to cook with right now,” Kohlrabi is making headlines across America as vegetable-focused cooking and plant-based diets are on trend.

At this year’s show, Bejo Seeds, Inc. is a finalist in the Sensory Experience Contest with Chef Mareya’s Kohlrabi Taco Trio! With three different fillings of shrimp ceviche, cuke and radish sprouts, a vegan taco with curry black and white beans, cauliflower and mushroom with tomato chutney and a pulled pork and bacon with mango salsa.

Bejo Seeds, Inc. will also be participating in the new Fresh Ideas Showcase with their crunchy Kohlrabi Veggie Sticks specifically processed for retail and foodservice.

Building on the success of branded veggie programs, Bejo Seeds, Inc. will showcase their most popular items at the PMA Fresh Summit and Convention. Be sure to stop by Bejo Seeds, Inc. booth #1727 and enjoy sampling their “tasti-trio” prepared and served by celebrity Chef Mareya, The Fit Foodie.
