Ukraine: Greenhouse growers gather during Yüksel Seeds field day

On September 20, 2015 Yüksel´s demonstration center in Ukraine welcomed guests once again. They came to see tomatoes and cucumbers of the second crop, which began to ripen two weeks before. Around 400 professional growers from Vodyanoe, Kamenka-Dneprovka and other neighboring farming villages (the biggest greenhouse area in Ukraine) gladly accepted the invitation. This is not surprising given that people’s interest in cucumber and tomato hybrids ofe Yüksel is growing very fast.

According to Leda-Agro, the exclusive distributor of Yüksel Seeds in Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova, the demand for a number of hybrids increased several times compared with the previous year. Still, Yüksel Seeds and Leda-Agro do not stop here and continue to offer new hybrids to better meet the demands of Ukrainian vegetable growers.

The recent newcomers are oval tomato 132-111 F1, early pink tomato Pink Panther F1 and beef black tomato 132-283 F1. The first one, which yields fruits of average weight of 200-240 grams, has filled the gap in the segment of indeterminate tomatoes between Antaliya F1 (180-200 grams) and Asya F1 (300-350) grams. Pink Panther became the earliest variety among pink hybrids. A black 132-283 F1 is the result of research conducted on Sacher F1 to increase the fruit, as was demanded by some Ukrainian clients. Thus, the average weight of the fruit increased to 200-220 grams (Sacher’s average weight is 150-160 grams).

Well-established hybrids, such as Antaliya F1, Leda F1, Asya F1, Pink Rose F1 and Sacher F1 also yielded some very good results. The guests were especially impressed by the semi-determinate tomato hybrid Leda F1. The farmers noted its earliness and setting of fruits in high temperatures. While the majority of dealers are projecting this hybrid to become a leader in its segment in the region.

This year greenhouse growers had many problems. The most serious one was high temperatures in August, which sharply turned to a cooler environment (especially at night) at the beginning of September. However, all tomato and cucumber (Lutoyar F1, Capricorn F1 and Sarasin F1) hybrids, without exceptions, sustained the heat and sharp swings in temperatures and produced excellent harvests. The first harvest of Capricorn F1 was completed on September 6 and then Lutoyar F1 and Sarasin F1 on September 7. For tomatoes by the time of the event, there were three harvests: September 7, 10 and 14 (only hybrid 132-283 F1 had two: on September 10 and 14).

The housekeep of the demonstration center made no secret of how he managed to grow healthy and strong plants with excellent fruits of marketable state. The experts that were managing the work of the demonstration center gave a detailed account of the technologies they used.
