Diamantino: the winning variety for Turkey
During the winter production of 2014-2015, Diamantino has proven again to be a very reliable variety. Smyrna Sera, a Turkish tomato grower that grows Diamantino as the main variety, has recorded the highest tomato production in Turkey.
Mr. Osman GÖKSAN, owner of Smyrna Sera, explains: “We started growing Diamantino in 2011 and are very satisfied with the results. Diamantino always performs well and consistent. That’s one of the reasons we have chosen to grow 19 hectares of Diamantino today.”
Mr. GÖKSAN continues: “Diamantino is the most suitable variety for us. We’ve grown several other varieties but Diamantino is really a winner. This tomato variety has unique qualities, such as a high production, a deep red colour and a good taste and shelf life.” Diamantino also excels in a humid climate and is strong against fungal disease pressure, which is a great advantage for the grower. “We are very proud of this record and are looking forward to the next growing season with Diamantino,” Mr. GÖKSAN concludes.
Smyrna Sera has a total production area of 20 hectares and is located 200 km south-east of Izmir, Turkey.
