Ethiopia: Horticulture association raises awareness of international standards

Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA) hosted the Global Good Agriculture Practice (G.A.P.) Tour Ethiopia, on August 27, 2015 with presentations on the Global G.A.P. flower benchmarked standard. The Global G.A.P. tour was organised to heighten awareness of the local flower and vegetable producing companies about the latest Global G.A.P. version, both to those companies which obtained the certification and to those not yet certified, according to Tewdros Zewdie, director of EHPEA. Tewdros also said that the event is expected to increase the number of exporters with Global G.A.P. certification. Among the standards in the Global G.A.P. are harvesting and post harvesting treatment, fertiliser use, soil management and propagation materials. With the last Global G.A.P. version which is Version Four, 15 local fruit and vegetable companies as well as three flower companies are certified.
