Canada: Eleven arrested for growing pot at Ontario greenhouse

Eleven workers at a medical marijuana greenhouse on Lakeshore Road were arrested last Thursday. During the raid, 843 large marijuana plants were seized, Niagara Regional Police reported to bufallonews.com.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the site after complaints from nearby residents about strong odors coming from the plants and complaints from town officials about the operation, which is only allowed to grow medical marijuana inside the greenhouses. The seized plants were outside.

John Henricks, director of community and development services for Niagara-on-the-Lake, told Canadian news media the town has court proceedings ongoing against the Lakeshore operation for building code violations and property standards issues. Thursday’s police action came a day after the town carried out an inspection of the marijuana operations.

The 11 workers are free pending court proceedings next month in St. Catharines.
