Swiss company develops sun powered AC system for greenhouses

A Swiss based company has developed a sun driven air conditioning system that can be interesting for greenhouse applications. The company, Grutec Fibre has developed a fiber, which adsorbs sun energy as well as moisture. The applied conception reduces air moisture and therefore condensation on the glass walls and fungus on plants.

According to Grutec Fibre's Johann Gruber, up to 1000 kJ/kg of sun energy can be latently stored in these fibers without loss over time. When running a greenhouse with this technique, the plant season may be extended for two to three months without the need of other heat sources like fossil fuels.
