Rijk Zwaan plans to build a new, high-tech quality center in the Dutch town of De Lier. The Seed Quality Center is to be located at the Zijtwende.
The new location has an area of 47,000 m2 and is still vacant. The intended Seed Quality Center will include greenhouses, laboratories and multilayered climate cells. Studies will be performed in order to test and improve the quality of varieties and seeds, under conditioned as well as under practical conditions.
The main location of the vegetable breeder currently employs around 700 people. In recent years, the lot has become crowded. In order to meet phytosanitary and quality requirements in the future, the company wants to expand a number of research and testing facilities in the new Seed Quality Center.
