Improving the market position of Dutch red rose growers

The red rose acreage in the Netherlands has been declining for years, putting prices under pressure. Sixteen growers of the Red Naomi! cultivar have united in the cooperative RosaHolland to maintain and improve their market position. Together they cover fifty-five hectares, or 3/4 of the existing acreage. "The flower is well appreciated by both businesses and florists. But foreign competition increases, and we have to stay strong,” says grower and chairman Aad Fransen.

Red Naomi! is a very strong product, as well as sturdy. Wholesalers and florists are happy to work with the Dutch rose. Through good value, but especially by offering uniformity and added value, RosaHolland seeks to make a difference. By joining forces, RosaHolland, attempts to boost the Red Naomi!.

RosaHolland has appointed a marketer who is looking for new markets through bulk offers outside the reach of individual members. Especially in off-peak periods, outside the known holidays, RosaHolland wants to stimulate the demand for the red rose.

RosaHolland thinks that in the near future, similar collaborations between growers of other cultivars will be an increasing sight in the Netherlands.
