Morocco: Rising zucchini prices after heavy rainfall

Heavy rainfall in the north of Morocco has caused zucchini crop failure, reports the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) (Agricultural Market Information Company) on their website. As a result, export volumes have fallen considerably. This also has consequences for the European market. Prices in both Spanish production and German wholesale are rising.

At the end of week 50 the average price for Spanish zucchini rose to 1.40 Euro per kg on the German wholesale market. That is almost 20% more expensive than the average price in the previous week. Looking at the two previous years however, the current price level is still low. The coming weeks will show whether or not the scarcity persists and the prices continue to rise.
