AU: Glasshouse Tomato Levy, is the industry doing fine without it?

Following representations from a major grower / wholesaler of fresh produce, and representations from levy payers in
other industries such as grains and livestock, the Senate Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee has established an inquiry into all agricultural levies.

Closing date for submissions was extended by a month to November 20th with the committee's reporting date extended into 2015.

Senator Leyonhjelm believes levies are taxes on growers but three year plebiscites would achieve his key aim of increasing scrutiny on how the money is spent on R&D and marketing, through a more democratic process.
