RW64:

New smart Urbinati transplanter handles up to 55,000 plugs per hour

Automated transplanters can help you the achieve big savings on labour costs. Last year Urbinati introduced the RW 64; the fastest transplanter that's available on the market. With a capacity of 55,000 plugs per hour, the machine is very popular in the thriving nursery industry in the United States.

"The RW 64 is the most precise transplanter on the market", said Urbinati’s Alessandro Mazzacano. "The machine uses wireless fingers/grippers. There is wireless transmission of data between the software [ the 'brain of the machine'] and each single finger. The computer knows exactly the position of each single gripper, because of the system receiver-transmitter set on each single gripper. Due to the fact that the computer knows the exact metrical position of each finger, we can program the same machine using different trays which results in a more precise and ergonomic transplanting action in the end.

A fast worker can transplant about 500 plugs per hour. Thanks to technological development, a single finger in a transplanter can transplant and achieve a double output. Urbinati's RW64 is equipped with 64 of these precise automated fingers; this makes the RW64 the fastest transplanter available on the market. “There is no other machine available that can keep up with this high production output without reducing the precision of the work.”

But it’s; not just the number of fingers inside a transplanter that achieve the most fastest production; The secret of the high handling speed of the Urbinati RW 64 of Urbinati is the ability to transplant multiple trays at the same time. "Our customers in floral nursery productions asked us to speed up the current offer of transplanters. We designed the machine and the program in a specific way that it's able to differentiate multiple trays, which speeds up the handling process", said Mazzacano.

Low maintenance

The wireless grippers in the RW series transplanters of Urbinati also decreases the necessity of maintenance: the fingers need no maintenance, there are no cables, no oil or other liquid around the grippers of the machine. This makes the costs compared to a standard transplanter evident.

The new RW64 is popular among floral producers in the U.S., but Mazzacano is also facing many interest from vegetable propagators in Australia and Europe. On top of this, Urbinati foresees many chances in China, due to the labour shortage. "Chinese floral and food production is on the rise , but growers are facing difficulties in finding the right people. Our machines will be required in the near future."

Communication

Urbinati's horticulture machines are ahead in terms of researching advanced technology solutions. “Our R&D focusses on designing the best solutions to help growers and productions, but also in achieving a faster payback on the investment made on the machine. These solutions involve automatic tray/pots fillers, to automatic stacker/destackers of trays/packs and pots. “

Urbinati's engineering offers complete projects, which are almost built on the customer's requests and demand. “We emphasize a high level of personalization and are always analysing possible solutions. Thanks to our extensive experience we take the experience from other customers and growers worldwide into account.
