AU: HFF Conference plans field trip to Katunga Fresh tomato greenhouse

Peter Van Den Goor might have developed his hydroponic expertise in Holland, but his roots are dug deep in Katunga, Victoria. After changes in the economic environment in his home country made hydroponic farming less viable, he and his wife Marian moved their family to Australia and built Katunga Fresh, their thriving Glasshouse Tomato operation.

They started with only a plastic hothouse, then built a 1ha glasshouse like the one they had in Holland. In 2012 the Van Den Goors expanded again to a 6ha glasshouse. Most of its structure, as well as the hydroponic equipment inside, is sourced direct from Holland because the quality of hydroponics is so high there.

Peter and Marian have just finished construction of a mammoth 12ha glasshouse as a joint venture with their distributors. The new structure is already set up to take on future expansion.
