Canary Islands: Local money available to stimulate tomato growers

The Canary Islands government, via the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Water, has announced new aid funding of four million Euro for the Islands agricultural industry. Half of the sources are intended for the tomato sub-sector.

Two million Euro are destined for the tomato export growers. 300,000 Euro is available to stimulate the local marketing of fruits, vegetables, flowers and ornamentals.

Regarding the aid from the European POSEI, expectations are that an advance of the subsidies per hectare and of the extraordinary additional amounts, recently approved by the Government of the Canary Islands, will be made so that 9.35 million Euro will be paid between January and February 2014.
