MPS and BLUME 2000 to improve sustainability in German floriculture

MPS and BLUME 2000, the largest retail florist chain in Germany, have announced their intention to work together on the development and implementation of BLUME 2000’s future sustainability policy. This will enable BLUME 2000 flower shops to offer customers a far wider range of certified flowers and plants in years to come.

"In recent years we have made significant investments in order to import Fair Trade-certified cut flowers from Africa. Now it’s time for European growers to improve their environmental and social sustainability performance,” said Alexander Zoern, managing director of BLUME 2000. Ina Reinders, the company’s sustainability director, followed this by saying: “We were clear that we wanted to appoint a certification body to help us implement our policy. After careful research we chose MPS and the MPS certificates.”

The MPS-ABC, MPS-GAP (or MPS-Socially Qualified) certificates now play a significant role in the conditions BLUME 2000 suppliers are required to meet. These certificates are consistent with the environmentally friendly, transparent and socially responsible production BLUME 2000 has in mind.
