Both coir and peat are bulky products. In order to keep transport costs as low as possible, they are usually shipped and transported in compressed form. Bringing back these products to the original volume is crucial in exploiting the full optimal growth characteristics of both products. Logitec Plus from Hazerswoude-Rijndijk has specialized in processing compressed materials. "Bringing back the original volume without damaging the structure of the material is an art in itself," says Mark van der Zande from Logitec Plus. "Its importance is underestimated by many."
The Big-bale Dosage Bunker (DB40) is used for the automatic processing of Big-bales. The product is returned in its original structure and volume. Mark: "The benefit, in addition to saving costs in transportation and packaging, is that it takes less labour. We increasingly see smaller growers switching to big-bale and the big-bale dosage bunker. Simply because it is clean and employees no longer have to perform hard labour. Besides this it makes things a lot easier in the greenhouse."
Logitec Plus Coco Mill
Growers growing on coir, often receive compressed blocks. The method used up until now is to spread the blocks on the ground and spray them with water. Mark van der Zande: "The disadvantages of this system are obvious: it requires a lot of space, water and gives a tremendous mess. Of course there is the risk of diseases and weeds in coir lying on the ground..."
Logitec Plus came up with a solution: the Logitec Plus Coco Mill. This new installation welts the blocks. The finished product is discharged directly from the coco mill.
Logitec Plus Mix Lines
The Logitec Plus Mix Lines are (mobile) installations for mixing raw materials with various additives. Logitec makes the mixing lines in different designs and sizes. The smallest mixing line handles approximately 15m3 per hour, the biggest 90m3. An efficient mixing system ensures the Just-in-Time production of the finished product which is tailored to the culture or cultivation conditions.
The raw materials such as peat, coir, bark, etc. are mixed with additives such as fertilizer and lime in the unique Logitec Plus mixing drum. The mixing drum will mix the materials without damaging the structure or compacting the peat. This is thanks to the design of the mixing drum with the special mixing plates. Mark: "This is an important advantage we have over other mixing systems. Another benefit of the design is that the mixture coming out of the line is very fluffy and able to soak up water much easier.”
