UK : Speciality Produce Growers Association change their name to The Baby Leaf Growers Association

The Speciality Produce Growers Association has changed their name to The Baby Leaf Growers Association to better reflect the activity of its members. The group meets twice a year with the Horticultural Development Company to direct expenditure of the HDC levy. These meetings help to co-ordinate a multitude of research projects from herbicide work to EAMU data generation. The meetings are usually arranged alongside a visit to either a chemical or seed company so that members can also learn about the work of the wider industry. Our most recent visit was to Tozer Seeds Spinach and Rocket Trials and as you can see it was a little wet!

The Association also benefits from the British Leafy Salads PR Campaign – Make More of Salad. Driven by Ceres and having started in February 2012, the campaign covers four key areas; including: press office, education in primary schools, social media and websites. The scheme so far has seen the launch of a new salads PR website www.makemoreofsalad.com, coupled with a twitter campaign, schools ‘Grow Your Own Salads’ scheme and a Facebook page.

New members are always welcome and so if you want to find out more or would like to join then please contact either Will Archer at [email protected] or Julia Hall-Jones at [email protected]
