Last week, the SXSW Eco conference on sustainable agriculture and horticulture and urban farming was held in Austin, the state capital of Texas, in the USA. This conference featured a speaker panel formed by two innovative entrepreneurs active in sustainable greenhouse horticulture: Mohamed Hage of Lufa Farms (Montreal) and Wouter Kuiper, CEO of KUBO. The two panellists discussed sustainable greenhouse horticulture in an urban environment.
The first Ultra Clima® greenhouse was completed for Lufa (3936 square metres) on 31 July 2013. The greenhouse has been constructed on the roof of a distribution centre in Montreal's Laval district. Lufa farms is a unique company with a unique concept for running a commercially successful horticulture company in the middle of a city. Featuring more responsibly grown local produce with minimum energy consumption, greater food safety, recirculation of drain and rain water and direct delivery to the consumer, it marks a real revolution in urban horticulture!
