Grower on supplying retailer Albert Heijn

"Netherlands: "If the price hadn’t been good, I would have switched"

Peter Bos of Gebr. Bos has been supplying Dutch retail chain Albert Heijn for over 20 years, most recently through Best of Four. Since 1993, Gebr. Bos has been providing tomatoes to Albert Heijn. Today, about 60% of their produce ends up at the retailer. Retailer and grower customarily meet about three times a year to discuss cultivation and product: in spring, summer and autumn. Among other things, they look at the taste of the product, the performance in the chain, the presentation capabilities and the growing itself.

Is Bos happy with the prices paid by Albert Heijn?
“Things are alright. If the price hadn’t been good, I would have switched to another buyer. I think we understand each other, and know what to expect.”
