Germany: Number of vegetable companies clearly decreased
The number of vegetable companies in Germany has continually decreased during the last few years, as announced on the German website Topagrar.com. In Germany in this segment there were only 7,220 companies with the obligation to report in 2012, as per figures of the German Bureau of Statistics. This number was still 14,500 companies in 2000. About 30% of the decrease is the result of structural changes in agriculture, as was established.
Looking at the separate regions it is clear that in all German federal states the number of vegetable companies decreased. Especially in Hamburg the decrease is extremely big, namely 40%. After that followed Brandenburg and Lower Saxony. In both federal states the decrease amounted to 19%.
